Learning with Tablets

Education

Reliable wireless services at schools allows for students and faculty to have options to create and foster a dynamic learning environment. Access to robust internet that allows for high-definition video helps facilitate individual learning by students. The primary challenge is managing the ever-growing number of devices and the massive amount of data needed to support these devices. As the number of devices increases, so do the security protocols that need to be implemented to prevent network infiltration and gaining access to sensitive data.

Computer Class

Wireless data usage at our schools amounts to the largest increase in data usage year over
year.

As usage increases, other challenges including network congestion, the number of users and the number of devices attempting to access the network can overload it causing it to become slow or unresponsive. Most wireless networks break downs occur during school functions that involve non-student visitors such as sporting events and performances. 5G networks help with speed and capacity issues during these events as well as ensuring the ability for students to utilize technology during daily classroom activities.

Having additional third-party wireless infrastructure installed on school property could support the additional capacity needs as well as becoming a source of revenue. Wireless revenue or cell
tower lease rates derived by schools can run in the range of tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. Understanding the value of those wireless assets and lease rates is valuable knowledge and something that every school needs to know.

87% of internet traffic is video content.
